Hello September!
This year September looks a little bit different in our house, both our girls will be in school full time and this ‘stay-at-home mom’ will now be given wings to fly as well. So while it may cause moisture to well up in the corners of my eyes as I watch both girls leave for school on Tuesday morning, I may also be dancing quietly in the corner while I close the door on one chapter of our lives and turn to the next.
I am truly thankful to have been able to spend the last 5 years at home with my kids. I am also truly thankful they are both heading to school in two more sleeps (but who’s counting).
This has been a job like no other, who knew parenthood was going to come with such responsibility…
Keep the kids alive, feed them healthy food, try not to hover, but hover just enough so they don’t get badly hurt, teach them independence, teach them kindness, compassion and patience, teach them manners and respect, let them dress themselves and use their creativity, *discipline when necessary*, love them unconditionally, guide them in forming healthy relationships & boundaries; encourage them to persevere even when things get tough. Teach them to honour who they are and teach them morals. You get the point. The list is exhaustive.
Helping to mould these tiny humans into the beautiful souls that get sent out into the world is a huge undertaking. Although I feel a sense of relief, it’s also mixed with a little bit of hesitation and questioning whether I’ve done my best. WE'VE ALL DONE OUR BEST.
Anyway, key take away points here are: 1. You’re a good parent, I’m a good parent 2. Mom guilt is a real thing 3. When the kids go back to school Tuesday, OWN your happy dance 4. Let’s stop putting so much pressure on ourselves 5. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are delicious but not nutritious 6. Thank you teachers
My kids are asking for snacks, so I better leave it at this… Only 2 more sleeps, but who’s counting?
Much love,
Mandy
